Germaine Mervis

Mervis, Germaine of Aylmer passed away at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Thursday, May 25, 2023 in her 93rd year. Beloved wife of Henry Mervis for 71 years. Dear mother of Linda DeMunck(Gabe) of Burford and Ron Mervis(Lisa) of Port Stanley. Loving grandmother to Jason(Janelle), Sandra(Shone) and Christine(Scott) and proud great-grandmother of Carson, Lauren, Skyler and Spencer. Predeceased by her son Tom Mervis(2000), sister Mary Palmer and brothers Marcel and Maurice Van Hende. Born in Cypress River, Manitoba on October 6, 1930, daughter of the late Rene and Zulma(Banckaert) Van Hende. Also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Germaine was an Ontario Champion Curler and competed at the national level. She was a longtime member of Aylmer Curling Club, the Our Lady of Sorrows R.C. Church, the Catholic Women’s League, Aylmer Lawn Bowling, Aylmer Shuffleboard, and Cy’s Bowling League. Germaine and Henry grew tobacco in Copenhagen for many years and enjoyed travelling, especially to Las Vegas. Visitation will be held at the H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Sunday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at the Our Lady of Sorrows R.C. Church, Aylmer on Monday, May 29, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. Interment, Queen of Peace Cemetery.
