Jean Stephens

Stephens, Jean of Aylmer passed away at Valleyview Home on Thursday, November 11, 2021 in her 92nd year. Beloved wife of Murray Leonard Stephens. Dear mother of Tim Stephens(Lynne), Tom Stephens(Jackie), Catherine Stephens and Nancy Wolfe. Loving grandmother of Beckie(Tanya), Josie(Jody), Angie(Iain), Brett(Navoda), George, Alison(Dan), Robert, Trevor, Geoff(Martha) and Lauren(Mark) and great-grandmother of Phoebe, Isola, Ioan, Faron, Ryder, Harlowe, Logan, Arthur, Osheen and soon to be baby Ollivierre. Sister of Marion Perley and sister-in-law of Orma McAffer and Lorraine McAffer. Special “mom” to Joan Bradburn and Kent Wolfe and grandmother to Meghan. Predeceased by her brothers Archie, Bob and Bill(Judy), brother-in-law Kirk Perley and sisters-in-law Marjorie Miskelly(Art), Phyllis Potenza(Tony) and Marie Campbell(Keith). She will be missed by a number of nieces and nephews.  Born in St. Thomas, Ontario on April 1, 1930, daughter of the late Archibald and Marion(Oliver) McAffer. Jean was a faithful member of the Aylmer Baptist Church. She was a gifted mother, an all-capable homemaker and a tireless worker. Mom was a person of sturdy intelligence, unusual warmth, exceptional integrity, and an endearing pluck – even feistiness – that followed a lifetime of facing down challenges and life’s inevitable disappointments. Her strengths included an unassuming modesty, a resilient, positive attitude toward life, and a simple devotion to caring for others ahead of self.  She was all about raising her four kids, and supporting Murray, with full-on love and encouragement. What people noticed most about Mom, however, was her fundamental kindness toward others.  As far as we know, she never said a mean word to anyone, by choice.  Jean was always just simply sweet. Although, in her later years, Mom’s mind swirled with dementia, she brightened our FaceTime days with her stories of her work & family.  Her serious musings made us laugh! Visitation will be held at the H. A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Friday from 6:00-9:00pm where the funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 11:00 am. Interment, Aylmer Cemetery. Donations to the Aylmer Baptist Church would be appreciated. Share memories or condolences at kebbelfuneralhome.com
