Cold closes some schools for third day

Some public schools in the area will be closed today, Wednesday, Jan. 8, due to the continuing cold weather and snow-packed road conditions.

While all Catholic schools were open, eight public schools in Elgin County were closed including New Sarum, Port Stanley, South Dorchester, Sparta and Summers Corners.

Bus service to most schools was cancelled.

Temperatures were forecast to rise throughout the day although parents were advised to ensure their children wore warm clothing.
