Rural schools closed due to snow

Several rural schools in the area were closed on Monday, Jan. 27 due to overnight snow that had created poor road conditions.

Thames Valley District School Board closed New Sarum, Port Stanley, South Dorchester, Southwold, Sparta and Summers Corners public schools due to bus cancellations.

East Elgin Secondary School and McGregor Public School in Aylmer were open but buses were cancelled.

Assumption Catholic Elementary School in Aylmer was open but the buses were cancelled.

Immanuel Christian School in Aylmer was also closed.

Elgin St. Thomas Public Health extended a cold weather alert for Elgin County until Thursday, Jan. 30.

Temperatures were expected to fall to -17 degrees Celsius on Monday with an overnight low of -21.

Winds were expected to gust from 30 to 50 kilometres an hour.
