Springwater Maple Syrup Festival begins
East Elgin Secondary School co-operative education student Blayne Armstrong, left, explained how to tap a tree to Gabriel Caron and Baylee Mancuso, both of St. Thomas, at the Springwater Maple Syrup Festival on Saturday, March 8. Saturday marked the first day of the annual festival where visitors can find out how maple syrup was made historically up to today, sample maple products, experience a horse-drawn wagon ride through the forest and enjoy a pancake and sausage meal. The festival runs each Saturday and Sunday in March from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and every day of March Break. Special events planned included a Children’s Festival on Saturday, March 22 and butterfly and bat house building on Saturday, March 29.
