Malahide seeks delay on Aylmer library tender award
Malahide councillors Thursday, April 3, voted unanimously to ask their Aylmer counterparts to delay awarding a tender for construction of a new downtown library until the possibility of putting it in East Elgin Community Complex could be explored.
Councillor Mark Widner introduced a surprise motion to that affect at the end of the Malahide meeting. The recent consultant’s operational review of the Complex, which is owned jointly by Aylmer and Malahide, suggested renting out the Imperial Hall community room to house a library or other use, he said.
Cr. Widner pointed out Aylmer was scheduled to consider awarding a construction tender for a new downtown library at its meeting Monday, April 7.
He asserted Malahide should have a say in the new town library because so many township residents used it. He didn’t say if that meant Malahide should contribute a fair share of money toward either a new building or renovations at the Complex to house a library.
