Serge Lavoie running for the Liberals
Serge Lavoie of St. Thomas will be the Liberal candidate in the June 12 provincial election.
His candidacy was announced by the Elgin-Middlesex-London Provincial Liberal Association by media release on Thursday, May 8.
Confirmation of his nomination was to take place late that afternoon at a fundraising event in St. Thomas with Ted McMeekin, Liberal candidate for Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Westdale and Minister of Community and Social Services before the Ontario Legislature was dissolved for the election.
Mr. Lavoie is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Southwest Economic Alliance but has taken a leave of absence from the organization to run in the election.
Mr. Lavoie joined incumbent Progressive Conservative MPP Jeff Yurek in the race and it was expected St. Thomas resident and union representative Kathy Cornish would be confirmed as the New Democratic Party candidate on Saturday, May 10.
