Soccer night games scrubbed by thunderstorm
Victoria Grunsell celebrated after scoring host East Elgin Secondary School’s second goal in a rare night game against Parkside Collegiate Institute Tuesday, May 20. The goal gave EESS a 2-1 lead early in the second half of the hardfought game, but shortly after a thunderstorm rumbled through the area. After a half-hour delay, the game was called on account of weather, and the boys teams from the two schools never got an opportunity to take the field. The girls’ game won’t count, and with the regular season closing this week, the matches aren’t expected to be rescheduled. Instead, EESS begins round-robin playoffs with games at Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute on Thursday, May 22, and back in Aylmer the following day against PCI, with the boys playing at 1 p.m. and the girls at 2:45 p.m.
