Body found near Athletic Park

A human body in advanced stages of decomposition was discovered by teenagers in a bush area north of Athletic Park in St. Thomas on Sunday evening, Sept. 14.

St. Thomas Police Staff Sergeant Hank Zehr said officers were called to the scene at about 11 p.m. to investigate a report of suspected human remains.

The teenagers who found the body told their mother who then called police.

Preliminary examination revealed the remains to be a human body in advanced decomposition.

Along with Coroner’s Office, the Criminal Investigations Unit of the St. Thomas City Police was investigating.

Once the results of the post mortem were available and possible determination of cause of death is known, St. Thomas Police would release more information.

Members of the public were asked to stay clear of Athletic Park on Monday, Sept. 15 and possibly beyond to maintain the integrity of the scene.
