Habkirk running for mayor
Former Aylmer Mayor and long-time town council member Bob Habkirk has thrown his hat in the ring to return to the top job in the Oct. 27 municipal election.
He submitted his nomination on Thursday, Sept. 11.
Mr. Habkirk is running against current Mayor Jack Couckuyt, a retired high school teacher and principal, and retired Ontario Provincial Police instructor and small business owner Greg Currie.
Mr. Habkirk finished second to Mayor Couckuyt in the 2010 election.
Running for deputy mayor in Aylmer are Gerry Richer (incumbent) and former council members Doug Avram (a one-time reeve) and Mary French.
Councillor candidates include, in order that they filed their nominations, Bill Murch, John Vandermeersch (incumbent), David LaPointe (incumbent), Arthur Oslach (incumbent), Pete Barbour (incumbent), Barbara Ann Laur, Ted McDonald and Judi Wright (incumbent).
