London man charged in local thefts
Officers with the Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police Property Crimes Unit on Friday, Sept. 19 arrested and charged a 62-year-old London man with numerous property-related offences after a three month investigation into several thefts around Elgin County.
Elgin OPP Constable Troy Carlson said the investigation stemmed from the recovery of a stolen 18-foot enclosed utility trailer which contained several pieces of farm machinery equipment.
The trailer was recovered from a property on College Line in Malahide Township on July 17.
OPP Property Crimes Unit conducted several search warrants at properties in both Elgin County and Strathroy-Caradoc.
Police recovered an 18-foot enclosed utility trailer, a 14-foot enclosed utility trailer, two skid steers a 12-gauge shotgun as well as miscellaneous small items.
Const. Carlson estimated the recovered property to be worth about $90,000.
He said the accused was arrested without incident.
The accused was charged with four counts of possession of property obtained by crime Over $5,000, four counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, break and enter and unauthorized possession of a firearm.
The man was released and was to appear in St.Thomas court on Oct. 28.
