Eagles loss closer than score showed
East Elgin Secondary School linebacker Brennen Weber, right, closed in on a London Lucas Vikings receiver for the tackle during their Senior football game under the lights in Aylmer on Friday, Oct. 3. The Eagles lost 42-16 but led 9-0 after the first quarter on a rushing touchdown by quarterback Luke Vanderspank (who kicked the extra point) along with a safety earned by the East Elgin defence. Lucas scored two touchdowns right before the end of the half to take the lead. The second half was a back and forth battle between the teams with Matt Friesen notching a touchdown for the Eagles with six minutes left in the game to reduce the Lucas lead to 21-16. But the Vikings put up three touchdowns before the final whistle to seal the win. The Eagles next host London Central on Friday, Oct. 10, kick-off at 3 p.m. after East Elgin’s Juniors play at 1 p.m.
