House fire kills a cat in Straffordville
A fire at a home on Arthur Street in Straffordville on the afternoon of Friday, Oct. 31 killed a cat but the family dog managed to escape with the help of neighbours.
Dorothy and Joe Neville weren’t at home when the fire started in their home and their next door neighbours, Bryan and Penny Bachmeier, both called 911 when they saw smoke coming from the house at about 2 p.m.
The Bachmeiers then ran over to their neighbours’ burning house and freed their dog.
No humans were injured.
A cause was not yet known and no damage estimate was available immediately after the fire was extinguished. Bayham volunteer firefighters from both the Straffordville and Port Burwell stations were still on the scene after 4 p.m. that day.
