Man electrocuted while trimming tree north of Aylmer
Janusz Danczak, 50, of London was killed after he came in contact with some live electrical wires while trimming a tree north of Aylmer on Monday afternoon, July 20.
Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police Constable Troy Carlson said the incident happened at about 3:25 p.m. at a private residence on Avon Drive just east of Imperial Road in Malahide.
“The male victim was up on an aluminum ladder trimming some branches for the residence owner, who was a friend, when he somehow came in contact with live electrical wires,” Const. Carlson said.
Officers with the Elgin OPP, Malahide firefighters, Emergency Medical Services and Ontario Hydro all attended the scene.
Mr. Danczak was taken to a London hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Malahide Fire Chief Brent Smith said an air ambulance helicopter was called off when it was determined Mr. Danczak could be taken just as quickly to the London hospital by the land ambulance which had arrived at the scene by 3:40 p.m.
Malahide firefighters arrived at the scene first at 3:36 p.m. and started emergency treatment on Mr. Danczak, Chief Smith said.
No foul play was suspected and a post mortem examination (autopsy) was scheduled for Tuesday, July 21 to “determine the cause of death,” Const. Carlson said.
