Rocking out for battery challenge
Front, from left, Springfield Public School pupils Tess McCallum, Kylie MacIntyre, Sophia Syrnyk, Amy Cox, Lily Giesbrecht, and back, Elle Yaw, Shelby Hamm, Chris Damen and Dakota Shoup were rock stars, and chewed gum, during a celebration day at Springfield Public School on Thursday, April 14. The school’s pupils were rewarded for having met their goal of collecting 20,000 alkaline batteries in two weeks as they continued a battery collection challenge. With 140,000 batteries collected so far, they’re in first place among participating schools, but only by a slight margin. The school is appealing for the public’s help, asking for more donations before the contest ends on Earth Day, Friday, April 22. Batteries can be dropped off at the school. Anyone who can’t make it there can telephone the school, which will try to arrange a pick-up. Pupils will also be collecting door-to-door in Belmont Saturday, April 16.
