No action taken on outside firm to run Complex
In an over three and a half hour joint council session on Monday, March 23, elected officials from both Aylmer and Malahide decided to take no action on sending out a request for proposals to look for an outside, private management firm to take over the operations of East Elgin Community Complex.
One of the two councils will have to pass a resolution to reintroduce sending out the request for proposals to find an outside management firm for the Complex for the matter to be even discussed again at the joint council level.
The meeting also included an hour long closed door, secret session between all elected officials, the top administrators of both municipalities and legal counsel to discuss “personal matters” and “advice that is subject to solicitor-client privilege.”
Other decisions made during the joint council session included:
– after reaching a consensus, both councils separately at upcoming meetings will discuss hiring a facilitator to help draft a new governance agreement for the Complex between the joint owners of the facility (Aylmer and Malahide);
– all hall rentals and programming at the Complex will be extended until the conclusion of the Thanksgiving long holiday weekend (Oct. 12) to accommodate the East Elgin Secondary School commencement ceremony;
– staff of both municipalities were directed to look into the feasibility of finding an “anchor” tenant or tenants for future hall space usage at the Complex;
– no ice on either of the two ice pads at Complex in June and July for 2015 only.
