St. Thomas Police nab robbery suspect
A 30-year-old St. Thomas man was arrested by St. Thomas Police on Thursday, April 23 for an armed robbery the evening before that sent a male variety store clerk to hospital for treatment of minor stab wounds.
The suspect was charged with robbery, aggravated assault, wearing a disguise and two counts of breach of probation.
A police spokesman thanked members of the public who offered their assistance and information.
“We were able to identify the witness who was driving the white Ford Escape,” the spokeman said. “When the community and the police work together, incidents like this can be solved quickly.”
A male clerk was sent to hospital for treatment of minor injuries after a knife-point robbery at Moe’s Variety store at 808 Talbot Street in St. Thomas on Wednesday evening, April 22.
A police spokesman said a man armed with a knife entered the store at 10:02 p.m. and demanded money from the clerk.
An “altercation ensued” during which the clerk received “stab wounds” to the face and chest.
The victim was taken to St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital and later transferred to Victoria Hospital in London for treatment of what the spokesman called non-life threatening injuries.
Police had been seeking a witness who was inside the store just prior to the robbery and left in the white Ford Escape.
