Springwater hosts Extreme Elgin

Jay Mayatt was the first competitor across the finish line of the “black shirt” squad during the fourth annual Extreme Elgin endurance obstacle course race at Springwater Conservation Area southwest of Aylmer on Saturday, June 11. Here he is seen emerging from the “swamp thing” obstacle near the finish line. The “black shirt” competitors attempt to complete the 10 kilometre course multiple times. Staged to raise money for the Elgin St. Thomas Community Foundation, this year’s Extreme Elgin attracted 237 participants. The other obstacles through the Springwater forest included swimming across the pond, climbing the “Berlin Wall,” a log carry, tire flips plus other endurance, agility and strength tests.
