Katie Stickel
Stickel, Katharina “Katie” formerly of Aylmer passed away at Brantford General Hospital on Friday, December 12, 2025, at the age of 91. Beloved wife of the late Konrad Stickel. Dear mother of Irene Stickel-Ruhlman (Philip) of Ayr and Konrad Robert Stickel (Andrea) of St. Thomas. Loving grandmother of Tasha (Dan), Ali (Steve) and Cassie. Great-Grandmother to Sebastian and Analeah. Sister of Christine Greenside (late Norman) and John Rakoschi (Marie). Also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sister Maria Rakoschi, and parents Johann and Katharina (Bertleff) Rakoschi.
Katie was born in Romania on November 7, 1934, in the village of Grosseidau Romania. She was the eldest of 4 children, and life was quite simple at the beginning. However, it quickly became evident that the family had to relocate due to WW2 and the hostilities that came along with it – so the family uprooted and made their way to Canada, eventually settling in the Aylmer area.
Shortly after, Katie caught the eye of young Konrad Stickel – and they married and started a life together on a tobacco farm outside of Aylmer. They eventually purchased their own farm in 1964, making it quite a successful operation.
Katie was known for her fantastic cooking and baking skills. Black Forest cakes made from scratch. Kifli of various flavours. A Hungarian Goulash that was wonderfully flavourful. The list goes on and on. She also had the ability to feed an entire harvest gang – with all the food coming out at the same time – and hot. Plus, a lot of the food came from her own large vegetable garden.
Social life revolved around the Saxonia Hall – as both Katie and Konrad loved to dance.
Visitation will be held at the H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 from 6-8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, December 18, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. with visitation from 10:30-11:45 a.m. Interment, Tillsonburg Cemetery. Donations to Bethany Lutheran Church, Woodstock – or the charity of your choice, would be appreciated. Share memories or condolences at kebbelfuneralhome.com.
Many thanks to the care staff at Telfer Place in Paris, and Brantford General Hospital for taking such good care of Katie.
