Peter Weese
Peter James Weese
It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Peter Weese has passed away peacefully on January 29th of this year, having just celebrated his 70th birthday.
Born in Napanee Ontario on January 1st, 1953, to the late Claude and Betty Weese; the best New Year’s gift they could have hoped for.
Growing up in Selby Ontario, he attended Napanee District Secondary School where he was an avid sports player and recognized leader, captaining the hockey team in winning the Ontario championship. Peter’s childhood friends speak of his genuine smile, gentle kindness, and enthusiastic humour.
Peter went on to attend and graduate from Western University. Meeting his wife during this time, they later settled in St. Thomas and raised four loving children.
During this time Peter worked for Petro Canada and was later the proud owner and operator of Elgin County Fuels. He loved vacationing with his family, snowmobiling, camping, and socializing. Peter was known for telling stories and, even more, his jokes; as well as his iconic mustache.
Peter’s later years were spent in Port Stanley, Ontario where he operated both a happening wine bar – bringing live entertainment to the quiet fishing village – as well as the town gas station where he would talk your ear off, if you let him.
The last place Peter called home was Sosua, Dominican Republic; living a comfortable, peaceful life in the sun and continuing to touch the lives of the people he bumped into along his walks down the beach.
Peter is survived by his four children Tara Kurgaunker (Rami), Nadine Willemse (Chris), Anson Weese, and Jovanna Ross (Brendon), their mother Anne, 9 grandchildren (soon to be 10!), and brother Gary (Donna) and family (Claudette, Scott, Danielle).
A Celebration of Life will be held at The Royal Canadian Legion, 310 George St., Port Stanley on Sunday, February 19, 2023 from 2-6 p.m.
Rest in peace dear Peter and keep smiling.
