No break on huge sewer bills
Central Elgin councillors on Monday night, April 14, voted 5-2 to reject a request from four Port Stanley cottagers for a break on their sewer bills, after water pipes burst in their properties, largely unoccupied during the winter, running up thousands of dollars in water and sewer costs.
One cottage was damaged beyond repair by water that leaked down from the second floor.
Most councillors stated that homeowners were responsible for ensuring that cottages empty during winter had water pipes drained to prevent bursting.
