Fatal motorcycle crash southeast of St. Thomas
Michael Turvey, 59, of London was killed on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 14, after he fell off his motorcycle and slid under a pickup truck on Sparta Line about 500 metres west of Fairview Road southeast of St. Thomas.
Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police Constable Troy Carlson said officers responded to the crash at about 4:16 p.m.
A 2012 White Ford pickup truck driven by a 35-year-old London man was travelling east on Sparta Line.
A 2008 Buell motorcycle driven by Mr. Turvey was following the pickup.
The pickup came to a stop to make a left turn into a private when the driver of the motorcycle lost control and fell off the bike and then slid about 50 m along the roadway and collided with the rear of the truck.
“The force of the impact trapped the driver of the motorcycle under the truck,” Const. Carlson said.
Mr. Turvey was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the pickup was not injured in the collision.
OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators were on scene assisting with the investigation which is ongoing.
A post mortem examination was being scheduled.
Sparta Line between Fairview Road and Stone Church Road was closed for about five hours.
