Aylmer Relay for Life to be merged with St. Thomas event
Aylmer’s annual Relay for Life, which has raised close to a half-million dollars for the Canadian Cancer Society over the last six years, will be consolidated with one in St. Thomas and be held in that city next June.
Angie Woodcock, Elgin-Middlesex manager for the Society, said dwindling revenue from and volunteers for local relays were forcing the charity to consolidate events across Ontario next year.
The organization hoped that consolidating the relays, and holding them during the day and evening rather than overnight, could re-energize them, she said, and bring in desperately needed revenue to support patient services and cancer research.
