High school skating meet takes over Complex
Port Stanley’s Miracle Collins, 17, represented St. Thomas Central Elgin Collegiate Institute in the 10th annual Skate Canada Western Ontario High School Skating Invitational Competition held at East Elgin Community Complex in Aylmer on March 4. Ms. Collins, a Grade 17 student, competed in Gold Solo Dance (seen here during the warm up), Junior Silver Free Skate (she placed fifth) and Silver Interpretive (14th). A total of 233 skaters representing 43 high schools from throughout southern Ontario competed in the day-long event. This year marked the ninth consecutive year the competition was held at the Complex. Ms. Miracle is a member of both the Aylmer and Port Stanley Figure Skating Clubs and splits her practice time almost equally between the arenas in Port Stanley and Aylmer.
