Updated–Boil water–watermain break affects Port Bruce, Copenhagen, Port Burwell, Vienna
Elgin St. Thomas Public Health is advising everyone on a waterline in the south end of Central Elgin, Malahide and Bayham to boil water before using it for human consumption, and that’s likely to last until at least Wednesday, June 15.
The health unit advised water should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute before drinking it or using it to brush teeth, make infant formula, wash raw foods or make ice.
Malahide issued an alert Monday afternoon, June 13, that a break had occurred in the trunk waterline serving the south end of Malahide, Bayham and Central Elgin, affecting 1,350 customers.
A crew was at the site at making repairs, the township, which administers the waterline, stated, but the work could take several hours.
Customers were asked to conserve water as much as possible in Port Bruce, Copenhagen, Vienna, Port Burwell and along Dexter Line east of Quaker Road.
Malahide, on its website, blamed a contractor working on Dexter Line in Port Bruce for the break.
The township also stated that after the break was fixed, flushing of the waterline and testing to ensure the water was safe to drink would take at least 48 hours.
More information as it becomes available.
