Andrew Gilvesy

September 30, 1971 – December 22, 2023

On Potters Road – where he lived, laughed and raised an adoring family, Andrew Gilvesy suddenly passed away on December 22, 2023 in his 53rd year. He leaves behind his highschool sweatheart and wife Cynthia Gilvesy (Godelie). After graduating from Western University with a Civil Engineering degree, Andrew married Cynthia and built a life on the home farm. Andrew was an amazing father to Alec, Grace and Craig. They are his greatest accomplishment. A loving brother to Lisa Gilvesy (Frank VanDeSlyke) and devoted son of Irene Gilvesy (Takacs) and the late Andy Gilvesy. He joins his late grandparents Mary and Frank Takacs and George Sr. and Helen Gilvesy. The happiest moments of Andrew’s life were those at home with his family. Chopping wood, planting and tending a vegetable garden, fixing old cars and walks with Copper – Andrew rooted his family in the simple joys of life. His sister-in-laws Elizabeth VanHooren (Aaron), Sarah Balega (Tibor) and Heather Westmorland (Brendan) and in-laws Larry and Barbara Godelie have lost the brother and son they never knew they needed. His many nieces and nephews will miss his love of adventure, tubing rides on the Lake and snowmobile rides through the open fields. A tight group of close friends – including his childhood and best friend Ted Toth (Melanie) and Nicole Sanderson (Kevin) share an unbreakable bond built on cherished memories of trips to the Pickerel River, pork roasts and endless nights of conversation, cards and puzzles. An active member of St. John’s Anglican Church, Andrew was a part of the Tillsonburg community, serving behind the scenes at Community Kitchens and building subdivisions in his professional capacity. Our collective tears are not a sign of weakness but of the love Andrew left behind. May he live on in the sands of Potters Road, the mist at Long Point, the sunsets on the Pickerel River and in the memories of his family and friends. Cremation has taken place. Friends and family are invited to offer their support to the Gilvesy family on Thursday December 28, 2023 at Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg, ON N4G 3T6 (519) 842-5221 from 2:00pm until 4:00pm and then 6:00pm until 8:00pm. A Memorial Service will be held for Andrew on Friday December 29, 2023 at 11:00am at the St. John’s Anglican Church, 46 Ridout St. W., Tillsonburg, ON under the care and guidance of Father Osita. A Private inurnment will take place at the Tillsonburg Cemetery following the Service.
