Annie Versteegen

Versteegen, Annie of Aylmer passed away surrounded by her family at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Friday, February 17, 2023 in her 89th year. Beloved wife of the late Jacobus “Koos” Versteegen(2003). Dear mother of Deanna Ward(Paul), Irene Versteegen-Buis(Larry), Phine Bennett(Blake), Jeff Versteegen(Karen) and Tony Versteegen(Annette). Loving grandmother of Megan, Jeremy(Samantha), Simon, Katie(Kenny), Lance(Mariska), Bobbie-Jo, Blake(Nikki), Jill(Luke), Jeffrey, Matthew(Lilly), Alicia(James) and Dalton(Ceilidh). Great-grandmother of Clayton. Sister of Jacquiline Jacobs(Theo) and Josephine Bangarth(Daniel). Also survived by a number of in-laws, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by son Big Tony(1967), granddaughter Chelsie Ward (1994), brothers Tony, Hank and sisters Bertha, Marie and several in-laws. Born in Boxmeer, The Netherlands on January 24, 1935, daughter of the late Jacobus G. “Jack” and Hendrika (Smits) Hermans.  Annie came to Canada in 1952 and lived in the Aylmer area for many years. She loved puzzling, scrapbooking and also enjoyed knitting and crocheting treasures for her children and grandchildren. On Saturday afternoons, she would spend it with her friends playing cards and enjoyed being a part of the 50+ card club at the Aylmer Legion. She often enjoyed a visit and coffee with her friends and neighbours. Much of her time was devoted to being in the garden which gave her great pleasure to see the fruits of her labour. Through this passion for gardening, she was a member of the Flower and Homecraft Committee with the Aylmer Fair Board and also the Aylmer Horticultural Society. Annie delivered meals for Meals on Wheels and volunteered with the VON. She was a long-time member of Our Lady of Sorrows R.C. Church and the Catholic Women’s League for over 62 years. Visitation will be held at the H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Monday from 1-4:00p.m. The funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows R.C. Church on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at 10:00a.m. Interment, Queen of Peace Cemetery. Donations to the Aylmer Area Community Foundation would be appreciated.
