Carol Mary Ewaskiw
Carol Mary Palmer Ewaskiw, in her 84th year, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Born on August 31, 1942, in Toronto, Ontario, Carol lived a full and active life.
Carol began her professional career as an office administrator in Toronto at both Renault and The City of Scarborough. After she married and moved to St. Thomas, she became one of the first office employees at the new Ford St. Thomas Plant, even before the grand opening of the Ford Assembly Plant in Talbotville.
Most of her career was spent as a public servant for the City of St. Thomas. She was active in her union, later moved into management, and completed her education at Fanshawe College in Public Service and Purchasing. She became a Universal Public Purchasing Certified Professional Public Buyer and ultimately served as Head of the Purchasing Department. Throughout her life, she was successful at balancing both her family and her career, a reflection of her dedication and strength.
Carol was deeply involved in her community. In the 1980s, she served as President of the St. Thomas Figure Skating Club. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, she was a member of the St. Thomas Performing Arts Council. She was also a long-time member of the Beta Sigma Phi St. Thomas Sorority Chapter as well as the St. Thomas Curling Club. In more recent years, she enjoyed attending both the Senior Centre and the University Women’s Club.
Above all, Carol cherished her family. She is survived by her husband Wallace (married 59 years), her children Melanie and Ryan (Janet), her grandchildren Emma and Dana, and her sisters Judith Traynor and Trisha (Grant) Lloyd, who will forever carry her love and lessons with them. She was preceded in death by her brother Keith Palmer.
Her presence brought warmth to every room, and her absence leaves a space that cannot be filled. Those who knew her will remember her active spirit and her love of cottage life.
A celebration of Carol’s life will be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the ICU Trauma Unit at St. Thomas General Hospital, or London Health Sciences.
