Affectionately called Pop, George was born in Varsseveld, Netherlands on May 15, 1929 to parents Bernardus Martinus Janssen and Christina Johanna Berentschot. He immigrated to Canada on his own in 1949. He began working as a farm hand with horses, then later beef cattle. He met his bride, Ida, in Aylmer, Ontario and married her on May 7, 1954. Together they farmed crops, pigs and dairy cows. Pop also worked for many years in a tile yard in Brownsville and Timken in St. Thomas. A gifted musician, George blessed many by playing the harmonica, a variety of accordions, and many church organs. Pop could talk to anyone and he will be missed by many friends and neighbours. He enjoyed going to the sales barns, his family and his scotch mints. Most of all he loved his Lord and Saviour and was a faithful servant in whatever he did. We will miss his quiet strength, strong convictions, and his witness. Until we meet again.
