Judith Couckuyt
Couckuyt, Judith of Aylmer passed away at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Sunday, March 1, 2026. She was 78 years old. Beloved wife of Jack Couckuyt. Loving mother of Jeff Couckuyt (Marcy) of Washington State and proud grandmother of Alexander and Moliah. Dear sister of Dr. Susan MacKenzie (late Robert). She will be missed by her brothers- and sisters-in-law, as well as her many nieces and nephews.
Judith was born in St. Thomas, Ontario on April 26, 1947, daughter of the late Alan “Pete” and Coral (Strong) Anderson. As a teenager, she worked for the Aylmer Express, writing a social and personal column. She later earned her B.A. from the University of Western Ontario and worked at Weldon Library while Jack completed his degree. They were married in 1968 and raised their family in Aylmer, the community she always considered home.
In 1981, Judith became the first female General Manager of the Aylmer & East Elgin Agricultural Society, a position she held for seven years. She also worked alongside her mother at the Ontario Ministry of Transport license office for ten years. Later, she worked as a Personal Support Worker at several nursing homes, including Terrace Lodge.
Judith enjoyed swimming and spending time outdoors, especially appreciating the beauty of the changing seasons. She was a strong supporter of the TNR (trap, neuter, release) program and welcomed many cats into her home over the years. She was also passionate about heritage home preservation in her community. In recent years, despite facing health challenges, she continued to care for her cats and remained thoughtfully organized and always planning ahead.
She will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her community, and the causes that were important to her. Cremation has taken place; a family graveside service will be held at a later date. Donations to the Aylmer Area Community Foundation or SALT(Saving Animals Lives Together) would be appreciated. Share memories or condolences at kebbelfuneralhome.com
