Larry Schmeltz
SCHMELTZ, Larry Eugene (January 15, 1950 – May 18, 2022) –
Peacefully, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, on May 18th, 2022, after a lengthy illness, our much-loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, Larry Schmeltz passed away in his 73rd year. Loving husband of 51 years to Linda (Evans). Larry is survived by his two children: Wendy Schmeltz (Ray Couture), of Tillsonburg; Mike Schmeltz (Alicia Barnett). Always a proud grandfather to Robin Rivait (Tyler Kavanagh), Trevor Rivait, Megan Schmeltz (Tim Teichroeb), Tasha Couture (Bryce Rivers) and Sean Guiller. Also survived by his much-loved great-grandchildren: Kyler, Noah, Jaedyn, and Myles. Survived by his sister Gale Roberts (Don) and brother-in-law Wayne Haney. Also survived by his in-laws Rose Veinot, Jackie Graham, Barb (Bob) Kriston, Brian Evans. Predeceased by his father Gordon (Gene) Schmeltz and mother Treva Johnson, sister Carol Archer, brother-in-law Chuck Archer, sister Linda Haney, stepmom Mildred “Millie” Cowan, brother-in-law Wayne Evans, brother-in-law Vance Veinot. Survived by several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Larry farmed alongside his father for many years and drove truck for many years for Verspeeten Cartage. Larry was a dedicated member of Malahide Masonic Lodge #140, Aylmer and member of Mocha Temple in London. Larry loved his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with all his heart.
In keeping with Larry’s expressed wishes, members of the Masonic Lodge will conduct a public memorial service on Wednesday, May 25th, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes- Burial and Cremation Services Inc. Chapel, 262 Broadway, Tillsonburg. All who knew Larry are invited to attend a public visitation on Wednesday, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. (service time). Private family interment will take place in the Schmeltz Family Plot at Straffordville Cemetery. All are invited to attend a Celebration of Larry’s Life, to be held on Sunday, June 12th, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., in the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 153 Hall, 16 Durham Street, Tillsonburg.
