William James “Jim” Smith
SMITH, William James (Jim) of Aylmer, formerly Selkirk, Manitoba, passed away peacefully at University Hospital, Saturday, April 02, 2022, having turned 77 on January 29, 2022, after a year and a half battle with Colon Cancer and Alzheimer’s. Left to remember him, love of his life of 51 years wife Doreen (Dodie), daughter Stephanie Smith, step-son Steven (wife Jodie) Maltezo. Predeceased by step-son Shannon Maltezo (1967-1973). Blessed by his much-loved grandchildren, his “little man” Sawyer James Shearer Smith and Steven Maltezo Jr., granddaughters Mercedes (Sadie) Maltezo and great grandson Aspen, one year old, and Mackenzie (Brodie) Fehr. Predeceased by brother Jack Smith, nephews Murray Grove and Randy Smith, and brother-in-law Ken Grove. He will be greatly missed by his sister Donna Grove, brothers George (Pat) Smith, Kenneth Smith, all of Selkirk MB, sister Catherine Maron of Quebec. Sisters-in-law Sharon Smith of Selkirk MB, Brenda Underhill of Tillsonburg, Christina (Chris) Underhill, Marilyn (Ken) Campbell, brother Leonard Underhill all of Aylmer, Harvey (Tammy) Underhill of Springfield and Bruce (Val) Taylor of Winnipeg, MB. Jim had several cherished nieces, nephews and cousins. Special thank you to Steve Shearer, accompanied by daughter Stephanie to Jim’s many doctor/hospital appointments. Jim was a 30-year Ford Talbotville retiree. He enjoyed the company of his many friends, seasonal camping, time shared with family, and our many beautiful RV trips with family and grandchildren to Selkirk, MB. Honoring Jim’s wishes, he was an organ donor, with cremation and no service. A “Celebration of Life” will be planned at a later date. Donations to Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, and Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
