Biker hurt in Talbot Street crash
A 24-year-old Aylmer man was taken to St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital (STEGH) for treatment of a a broken knee and finger after the motorcycle he was riding struck the rear of a car while both vehicles were travelling east on Talbot Street East in Aylmer on Sunday evening, April 24.
Aylmer Police Sergeant Nick Novacich said officers and emergency medical services responded to the crash at 7:08 p.m. that night in the area of 87 Talbot Street East.
Sgt. Novacich said witnesses told police the motorcycle rider was “launched a considerable distance” from where his bike struck the rear of a 2009 Chev car that was being driven by a 19-year-old Aylmer man.
Sgt. Novacich said both vehicles had been travelling east on Talbot Street East and that the Chev had slowed to make a left turn when it was struck from behind.
Talbot Street was closed to traffic between John Street and Queen Street for three hours for the investigation.
Sgt. Novacich said both vehicles were towed from the scene and would “undergo further mechanical inspections in the coming days as police piece together a possible cause and speeds of the vehicles.”
The motorcycle driver was transported to STEGH by ambulance while the driver of the car was treated at the scene and released.
“This investigation in ongoing and charges are pending,” Sgt. Novacich said.
