Fishing derby at Springwater

Kienan Davey, 6, left, his mother Tabatha and his brother Leighton, 3, of St. Thomas cast their hooks and bait into the water at Springwater Conservation Area on Saturday, July 26 for the annual Kids, Cops and Canadian Tire Fishing Derby. Everyone participating could fish for free but the usual vehicle day pass fee was applied. Anglers aged 17 and under were eligible for prizes and all children were treated to hotdogs and drinks. Officers with the Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police were on hand to help the children bait their hooks and reel in their fish. Leighton had already caught a rock bass before the photographer visited his family on one of the observation/fishing platforms.
