Church treats bridge work crew for lunch
A group of women volunteering with Bradley Street Church of God had been making home-cooked meals for the work crew replacing the John Street South bridge in Aylmer over the past two weeks leading up to this take-out pizza lunch on Friday, Aug. 19. A spokesman for Gary D. Robinson Contracting Ltd. of Malahide thanked the women and Pastor Franz Friesen for their hospitality and for their patience with one lane of the bridge being closed during the project and the stop lights which tie up traffic. Pastor Friesen said by providing the about 12 workers lunch, his church was just returning the favour: the workers were helping out his congregation by returning to the site on Sundays to help move about 150 cars out of the church parking lot after worship services in about 15 minutes. Without the traffic assistance by the workers, Pastor Friesen said it probably would take a couple of hours for everyone to be able to leave after the church service. Besides, he said the group of women were already cooking for a contingent of about 50 visitors who had been attending a Bible course at the church over the past two weeks, adding the free lunches for the work crew would continue for one more week.
