Minor flooding after major thunderstorm
Minor flooding was reported in various low-lying areas of the region including Kinsmen Park in Aylmer, seen here, Optimist Park and in farmers’ fields north of Copenhagen after about 50 millimetres of rain fell overnight Friday, Sept. 5. While parts of London experienced heavy damage due to fallen trees and lightning strikes, Aylmer escaped relatively unscathed as Police Chief Andre Reymer said the only incident officers responded to was a fallen tree near the intersection of Elm and Oak streets. He said the tree was hit by lightning and was reported down on the ground at about 9:30 p.m. Employees with the town’s works department cleaned up the mess. No one was injured and no damage was reported.
