Robert (Bob) Gordon Howey
HOWEY, Robert (Bob) Gordon (February 18, 1923 – June 8, 2022) –
It is with sadness that we the Howey family announce the peaceful passing of our much-loved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, and friend, Robert (Bob) Gordon Howey, surrounded by his loving family, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, on June 8th, 2022, in his 100th year. Bob was born in Straffordville to the late John and Della (Kennedy) Howey. For many years, Bob proudly farmed alongside his loving wife of 75 years, Margaret Louise (Jackson) Howey, of Straffordville, his father, two brothers and sister-in-law and later his son and nephews. Bob was a proud and active member of Bayham United Church, Straffordville, where he for many years volunteered as a Sunday school teacher and Sunday School Superintendent, among many other roles. Bob served on the Tillsonburg High School Board of Directors and later the Elgin County Board of Education. He also served on the Aylmer/Malahide Telephone Co. Board of Directors (later known as Amtelecom). Bob was an avid hockey, baseball fan and in his younger years he enjoyed playing both sports. Among Bob’s many hobbies was gardening and he grew impressive displays of flowers. He also enjoyed photography and raising sheep. He was always interested in current events and enjoyed reading about Canadian history, politics, and travel. Bob will be remembered as a truly devoted community and family man, as a strong family supporter, and as a very proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Much loved father of Linda (Paul) Hudson, of Straffordville, and their children: Daniel (Erin) Hudson, Emily Hudson, Sarah (John) Hawkins; Kathy (Murray) Scanlon, of St. Paul’s, ON, and their daughter Maggie (Troy) Scanlon; John (Tina) Howey, of Eden, and their children: Robert (Faith) Howey, Benson (Lisa) Howey, Hannah (Scott) Howey. Special great-grandfather to: Sophia & Audrey Hawkins; Edie, Denver & Everleigh Hudson; Della Howey. Survived by his brother Hugh (Mabel) Howey, sister-in-law Katherine Wolfe (late Jack), as well as by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased by his loved daughter Della Lorraine Howey (2015), his sister Ida (late Miller) Wood, and his brother Bill Howey.
