Port Burwell man killed in crash with farm machinery
Alan James Hollywell, 63, of Port Burwell was killed after his car collided with a piece of farm machinery near the intersection of Nova Scotia Line and Richmond Road at 6:23 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13.
Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police Constable Troy Carlson said the collision occurred on Nova Scotia Line about 10 metres east of Richmond Road.
The tractor, a 2010 John Deere 9332, was travelling east on Nova Scotia Line pulling a piece of farm machinery (a disk ripper) when a 2006 Chrysler 300 travelling west on Nova Scotia Line collided with the disk ripper.
The car then entered the south ditch and struck a hydro pole.
Mr. Hollywell was the lone occupant of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene, Const. Carlson said.
The driver of the tractor, a 17-year-old male from Bayham, was uninjured.
OPP Technical Traffic Collision investigators were on the scene to help determine a cause for the collision which was still undetermined the next morning.
A post mortem examination was scheduled for Friday morning, Nov. 14, 2014.
Nova Scotia Line was expected to remain closed between Carter Road and Mitchell Road until about 6:30 a.m.
