Sylvia Hooghiem

Sylvia Hooghiem, of Aylmer passed away surrounded by the love of her family on Sunday, September 6, 2026. She was 64 years old. Beloved wife of Red Hooghiem. Dear mother of Michael (Isabella) of Cambridge, Jeremy (Brooke) of Brampton, Bradley (Anna) of Colorado Springs and Nicole Iyer (Mathan) of Kitchener. Loving Oma of ElsjeBella, Caspian, Blade, Lylah and Desmond. Sister of Margie De Jong (late Bill), Edith Spooner (late Dave), Margaret Young (Roger) and sister-in-law of Karen Van Rheenen, Annette Hartemink (Henry), Al Hooghiem (Randee) and Leinie Hartemink (Eric). Daughter-in-law of George and Corrie Hooghiem. She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brother Pieter Van Rheenen. Born in Chatham, Ontario on December 10, 1961, daughter of the late Tony and Corrie Van Rheenen. Spending time with her family was one of Sylvia’s greatest joys; she was never happier than when everyone was gathered together, and she adored her children and grandchildren. She also loved reading, travelling, and serving in her church and Christian school. Sylvia professed faith in Jesus, her Saviour, at a young age and took comfort in knowing that her eternal destiny is with Him.
Visitation will be held at the Aylmer Christian Reformed Church on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Aylmer Christian Reformed Church on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. Family Interment, at Aylmer Cemetery.
