Chester McClintock
With great sadness we announce the passing of Donald Ross “Chester” McClintock, born March 10, 1938 in Tillsonburg, Ontario. Survived by loving wife of 61 years, Joan (Smith), brother Pete “Peewee” McClintock, daughter Dawn McClintock (Mark), son Scott McClintock, daughter Jill Orlebar, grandchildren Emmalee, Katie, Lauren, John, Evan, Magnus and Rayna. Pre-deceased by parents Stanley Ross McClintock and Catherine (“Katie”) Jamieson and his brothers, Mack, Mert, Mike and Buck. Chess had a special place in his heart for his nephew Jim (Tinker) McClintock and family.
Chess grew up on the family farm on the 9th Concession of Dereham. Life on the farm was always an adventure with many family members including both sets of grandparents who lived on the farm and close by.
Hardwork was instilled in Chester from day one working on the family farm and getting up to shenanigans with brothers, cousins and neighbouring friends. He started his first job at the Brownsville tile yard where employment was had by most of his brothers and the company’s gain was the raw strength that the McClintock boys provided. He went on to work on the great lakes drilling for gas, working for the MTO providing service to stranded travellers and even assisted with the construction of the 401. He then went on to work on the railroad, Timkins and then started a career in water well drilling where he later brought son Scott into the fold. After hanging up the hard hat, Chess signed on with friend Dan Bearss who ran Bearss Grounds Maintenance where he spent several years maintaining the grounds at the Ontario Police College where he made many friends and continued to visit them and tell the new grounds keepers what they were doing wrong.
In his day, Chess was an avid hockey, baseball player and had many stories to tell about defending his teammates. Later turning that passion into coaching and being the biggest fan of his kids and grandchildren at their sporting events.
Known for his animated story telling and ever-present humour right until the end of his life. Anyone who knew him could tell you he loved a good laugh, a good drink and most of all the company of family and friends.
Chess and Joan enjoyed many years of travel and companionship with Dan and Cathy Bearss taking them to such places as Hawaii, South Carolina, St Maartens. Many annual camping trips with Pete and Betty McClintock and family.
Life revolved around the love of his family (especially his grandchildren), his dogs and his John Deere tractors. He loved his friends at Studers, Avon Feedmill and the Aylmer west Tim Hortons, Country Flavour-Rites Amish Bakery where he made his daily tour.
