West African drummer spreads joy in New Sarum
Fana Soro brought his colourful combination of West African dress, traditional drumming, singing and dance to New Sarum Public School on Friday morning, April 29. His performance included playing various different hand drums, singing, dancing and storytelling, much of which called for interaction with the pupils in the audience. Originally from Cote d’Ivoire, Mr. Soro immigrated to Canada in 1997 after touring internationally with the Ballet National de Cote d’Ivoire for nine years and living and touring for several years in Scandinavia. His music features the balafon, a traditional West African xylophone, and the djembe, the most popular African hand drum, along with and other drums and instruments.
