Goldwin James Emerson “Goldie”

Goldwin Emerson passed away peacefully at 93. His family is grateful for the compassion and exemplary care at Valleyview Nursing Home, St. Thomas, Ontario. Goldie was predeceased by parents, Samuel and Etta Pearl (nee. Hunter); siblings, Raymond, Glen, and Hilda Emerson; brothers-in-law, Albert and David Hedley; son, Kevin; and beloved wife of 70 years, Jacqueleen. He is survived by caring sisters-in-law, Margaret Hedley, Marjorie Krikorian, Gloria Hedley, Margaret Emerson, and brothers-in-law, Garry Krikorian and Bob Malott. His loving son and daughter-in-law, Blake and Monika Emerson; his daughter and son-in-law, Heather Emerson and Mike Hart; and nephew Dennis Biernes will miss him greatly. Goldie was proud of his grandchildren, Kristine Emerson, Julie Schreier, Kendra Hart, and Ethan Hart, and their partners, David Griffith, Gil Schreier, Damon Guidolin, and Morgan Bell. He had a charming great granddaughter, Zayna. He will be fondly remembered by nephews and nieces and friends.
Goldie was born and raised near Kincardine, Ontario. He taught school and became a vice principal and principal prior to joining the faculty of Education at the University of Western Ontario. There he taught philosophy of education and presented many academic articles. He obtained his Ph.D. and professor Emeritus. Goldie was dedicated to family, friends, education, and lifelong learning. He was active in the Unitarian Fellowship and Humanist Society. In his retirement he enjoyed world travel with Jackie, art, bowling, badminton, euchre, scrabble, and discussions with friends. Goldie wrote many articles for the London Free Press and the Aylmer Express. He will be remembered for his gentle nature, wisdom, diplomacy, interest in ideas, friends, and creativity. Private interment will take place at Woodland Cemetery. Donations may be given to Valleyview Nursing Home (recreation fund), or your preferred charity.
