Sylvere Edward Van Gulck
VAN GULCK, Sylvere Edward (1940- 2019)– Passed away, peacefully, after a courageous struggle with illness, on Friday, September 13th, 2019, with family by his side, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, Sylvere Edward Van Gulck, a resident of Straffordville, in his 80th year. Born in Beveren – Waas, E.F., Belgium, son of the late Joseph Van Gulck and late Germaine (Van Goethem) Van Gulck. Dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, family man and friend. Deeply dedicated member of the Straffordville Lions Club for 40 years. Director with the former Delhi Belgian Club for 10 years. A fisherman and outdoorsman, Sylvere was a member of the Otter Valley Rod and Gun Club, Straffordville. Sylvere and Marie will always be remembered for their well-renowned Van Gulck’s Bakery in Straffordville that had a clientele from far and wide for all those who treasured their Belgian Pastries and Bread. The Van Gulck’s were very proud of their Belgian Heritage and their Bakery was an outstanding representation of Belgian and European cultures. Bakery career spanned 43 years. Sylvere also was a proud Langton area tobacco farmer. Much loved husband and best friend of almost 55 years of Marie (Heyrman) Van Gulck. Loved father and father-in-law of daughter Terry-Ann (Troy Chute), of Langton and a granddaughter Charissa (Paul Stefan) and their daughter Quinn Stefan and a granddaughter Kristen Chute (fiancé Mat Stangen). Survived by a brother Boudwyne (“Budd”) Van Gulck, of Tillsonburg. Also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by a brother Edward Van Gulck (March 16, 2012) and his late wife Patricia (October 4, 2003) and a brother Theophil (“Theo”) (March 22, 2001) and his late wife Mariette (January 21, 2018). Friends, neighbours and relatives will be received by Marie and the family on Tuesday evening from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the MAURICE J. VERHOEVE FUNERAL HOMES – BURIAL AND CREMATION SERVICES INC. Chapel, 262 Broadway Street, Tillsonburg (519)842-4238. Parish Prayers are Tuesday evening at 5:45 pm. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, September 18th, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 51 Venison St. W., Tillsonburg by Rev. Fr. John Pirt. Interment follows in the Tillsonburg Cemetery. Memorial donations are payable by cheque to the “Lion’s Club International Foundation” or to the “Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital Foundation” or the “Canadian Cancer Society (Research)” through the Maurice J.
