Donad “Smitty” Smith

Smith, Donald Eugene “Smitty” of St. Thomas passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 in his 86th year. Beloved husband of the late Bonnie(Morrish) Smith(2010). Dear father of Todd Smith(Susan) and Tim Smith. Don will be greatly missed by Denise White(Joel). Loving grandfather of Derek(Kim), Meghan(Kevin), Lacey and Logan. Predeceased by his brother Gary Smith. Born in St. Thomas, Ontario on June 3, 1938, son of the late Bob and Pearl(Anger) Smith. Don was a hockey coach for house league hockey in Aylmer and affectionately known as Smitty. For many of the players, his voice could be heard from anywhere on the ice. He and Bonnie loved spending time together at their trailer in Niagara Falls and camping at Lake of Two Rivers.  In recent years, he took great pleasure having morning coffee with his buddies. A graveside memorial service of Smitty’s life will be held at the Aylmer Cemetery on Friday, May 3, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. with a reception to follow at the Aylmer Legion.
