Bob Plato

Plato, Robert “Bob” formerly of Springfield passed away peacefully with his family by his side at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Sunday, July 5, 2026. He was 96 years old. Cherished father of Lynn VanWychen(Dave) and Mark Plato(Diane). Loving grandfather of Brooke McDermott(Jonathon), Wesley VanWychen(Amanda), Nick Corey, Mathew Corey(Gillian) and Christopher Corey(Taylor). Great-grandfather of Connor, Leah and Evan McDermott, Hayden and Izzy VanWychen, Desmond Swartz and Wesley and Dairmuid Corey. Brother of Pearce Plato (late Beatrice). Born in Malahide Township on September 22, 1929, son of the late Murray and Stella(Pearce) Plato. Bob was a lifelong resident and dedicated farmer in Springfield, where he spent his entire life. For 42 years, he was employed with Imperial Tobacco while continuing farming. An enthusiastic pilot for over 50 years, Bob found great joy in flying.

He was deeply committed to serving his community, volunteering for many years at Springfield Cemetery and as a member of the Malahide Fire Department #2. Bob was also an active member of Springfield Lions and Aylmer Baptist Church. He generously gave his time coaching Springfield Minor Ball and was a devoted supporter of youth sports, taking pride in encouraging and investing in the next generation.

In his later years, Bob devoted much of his time to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nothing brought him greater happiness than being part of their lives. Bob lived at Metcalfe Gardens for two years and later moved to AgeCare. Visitation will be held at the H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Thursday, July 9, 2026 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, July 10, 2026 at 11:00 am.
