New Sarum parents want school kept open
About 30 parents from New Sarum Public School came to Central Elgin council on Monday, Nov. 28, pleading for help to save their school from closure as proposed by Thames Valley District School Board.
Councillors, who had previously formally supported a push by Belmont parents for a large new elementary school there, were left between “a rock and a hard place,” Mayor David Marr observed.
He proposed, and councillors agreed, to hold a special meeting with representatives from all public school communities in the municipality, New Sarum, Port Stanley and Sparta, the night of Wednesday, Dec. 14 to hear from all sides.
