Central Elgin okays 3.75% tax levy hike

Central Elgin councillors on Monday night, Jan. 27, unanimously approved a 2014 budget that will increase the municipal tax levy from just under $11-million last year to $11.4-million, a 3.75-percent increase.

About the only changes made during the course of Monday’s budget session were to shuffle some reserve fund money around, to give $15,000 to a rebuilding campaign for the Port Stanley Festival Theatre and to increase a grant to the Port Stanley and Sparta Doors Open committee to the $1,500 requested this year, instead of cutting it to $1,100 as a grant review committee recommended.
