John Marissen

August 6, 1953 – August 10, 2026

John Marissen, born August 6, 1953, in St. Thomas, Ontario, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026, in Tillsonburg, Ontario.

Family was at the heart of his life. He will be deeply missed by his children, Wendy Marissen and her partner Matt, Julie Marissen, Erin Barker and her husband Robert, Megan Marissen and her partner Tony, and Tony Marissen and his wife Alicia.

He was also a very proud grandfather to Kayla, Andrew, Addison, Jared, Hazel, Hayden, Rhys, James, Ellie, and Sophie. His grandchildren brought a special kind of happiness into his life. He will be missed dearly by many nieces and nephews.

John is also lovingly remembered by his former wife, Janice Schuurman (Jeff), his siblings, Annie Marissen, Harry Marissen (Ida), and brother-in-law Dirk VanDixhoorn. John was also predeceased by his loving parents, Teunis and Hennie Marissen and his sister Nancy VanDixhoorn. He will also be remembered by his friend Rick, whose friendship was an important part of his life.

There will be so many things his family will miss: his presence, his familiar voice, his quiet sense of humour, the little conversations, the walks, the stories, and all the ordinary moments that never seemed important at the time but now mean so much.

Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received for a celebration of life to be held Saturday, October 10, 2026 at Ostrander Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell St., Tillsonburg, ON N4G 3T6 (519) 842-5221 from 11:00am-1:00pm where the funeral service will start at 1:00pm. All are welcome to come and go and share memories of John. A private interment will follow the celebration of life.
